THE PROJECT:
TRIPORA is a platform that helps Canadian travelers plan domestic trips by consolidating cost-friendly options for transportation, accommodations, dining, and travel packages into one easy-to-use app. It streamlines the booking process with personalized recommendations and cost comparisons, all in one place.
This group project included five members with varying roles. As the designer, I focused on user research, interface design, and prototyping. This case study was part of our capstone project for ITEC 4010: Systems Analysis and Design II.
Role: UX designer & researcher

CONTEXT:
With the rise of online trip planning, users often face the hassle of navigating multiple websites to book transportation, accommodations, and dining. TRIPORA was created to solve this by offering a single platform that simplifies domestic travel planning for Canadians, prioritizing affordability, ease of use, and personalized recommendations.

The project was developed during the end of the COVID-19 pandemic when internal tourism in Canada had decreased significantly. The aim was to encourage Canadians to explore their own country by providing an all-in-one solution that made trip planning more accessible, efficient, and affordable, thus helping to boost domestic tourism.
Our goal was to create a seamless, all-in-one experience that eliminates the need to switch between multiple services, making trip planning faster and more efficient.

PROBLEM:
How might we help Canadian travelers, both domestic and international, easily find affordable and reliable travel options within Canada, so they can explore and experience the country without the stress of navigating complex or expensive booking systems?

Planning a domestic trip in Canada can be overwhelming, with users needing to visit multiple websites to compare prices and services for hotels, transportation, and activities. The fragmented experience leads to wasted time, confusion, and difficulty in finding the best deals. TRIPORA aims to consolidate these services into a single platform, improving the user experience and boosting domestic tourism as travel demand increases post-COVID.
GOAL:
The goal of TRIPORA is to provide Canadians and international tourists visiting Canada with a seamless, all-in-one platform for planning domestic travel. The app will allow users to easily compare affordable options for transportation, accommodations, dining, and activities, saving time and offering cost-effective solutions in one place.

EMPATHIZE:
Primary Research
We conducted structured and unstructured interviews with potential users to better understand their pain points and needs when planning domestic travel.

The goal was to understand their needs, motivations, and pain points when planning domestic trips. I asked participants a series of questions about their current travel planning process, challenges they face in comparing prices across services, and how they typically manage their travel budgets.
“It’s exhausting to switch between different sites just to compare prices. I wish everything was in one place.”

Interview Findings
Through user interviews, we discovered that travelers often struggle with the time-consuming nature of planning trips across multiple websites. Users expressed frustration with the complexity of comparing prices, and many mentioned that they would prefer a streamlined platform that offers a variety of affordable options in one place.
Additionally, the end of COVID-19 presented an opportunity to inspire Canadians to explore their own country, with domestic travel being underutilized compared to international options
